ISIC — International Student Identity Card
ISIC (ISIC-Scholar, ISIC-Maestro, ISIC-Visa, ISIC-STAFF) — international card confirming identity and status of a student/pupil (International Student Identity Card), created by the International Student Tourism Confederation in 1953 under the auspices of UNESCO, which objective is common with the ISIC one — to support communications of active, curious, responsible students.
Moreover, ISIC is a discount card providing over 40 thousand discounts and benefits for transport, accommodation, nourishment, communication, entertainment and shopping in 120 countries of the world. ISIC may combine the functions of card (key) in access system, card for passage in transport means, bank card, national insurance card, membership card, travel card.
At present ISIC is the only card confirming identity and status of a studying person officially recognized in 120 countries of the world. Each year over 4.5 million young people become holders of ISIC cards.
Since 1953 over 50 million students became users of ISIC. Each 8 seconds a new ISIC card is being issued in different corners of the globe.
In a number of countries ISIC is the only official student ID card and is used as a document confirming identity and status of the user. ISIC card is necessary for issuance of air tickets at a special discounted rate.
ISIC has a fixed validity period, which is equal to 16 months, from September 1 till December 31 of the next year, i.e. time, during which the card is valid, doesn’t exceed 16 months and depends on the issuance date. There is no upper-age limit for ISIC holders.
ISIC card may be issued to:
- Pupils (over 12 years old) of schools, lyceums, gymnasia
- Full-time students of universities, institutes, colleges, academies, vocational-technical schools
- Full-time graduate students if they are studying not less than 20 hours a week
- Course participants if they are studying not less than 20 hours a week and the courses are lasting for at least 6 months
In order to have an ISIC card issued it is necessary to submit the following documents:
- Completely filled application for issuance of the Identity Card.
- Student (pupil) ID card (its copy certified either by a notary or by the dean’s office) valid as of the date of ISIC issuance, or a reference from the educational institution confirming the status of a student (pupil) as of the date of ISIC issuance, or the student’s record book including the mode of study (full-time).
- A document verifying identity and confirming the date of birth: passport/international passport or birth certificate or driver’s license.
- A copy of the first page of international passport in order to know the spelling of family name and first name in it.
- A passport-sized photograph (3õ4) — an issued ISIC card should contain a real photograph
- Cash or the original of the card issuance payment receipt (in the case of cashless payment).
